Question

A hypothetical mRNA, AUG CGU CUA AGG AGG codes for five amino acids. what will happen if you delete the first C ?will five amino acid be still coded ? give reason.

Solution

If we remove the first C, then the sequence will become

AUG GUC UAA GGA GG
Methionine will be coded by codon AUG, valine will be coded by GUC. Now UAA is a termination codon. Hence, polypeptide synthesis will be terminated at this codon. Thus, only two amino amino acids will be coded if we delete the first C from the given sequence.
