A metal carbonate has a formula M2CO3. What is the formula of its oxide and chloride?
M2CO3 , the formulas shows that, metal is univalent and as usual cabonate is bivalent whose valencies are shown.
So, since, chlorides have -1 charge thus, formula of metal chlorides will be MCl ( ex : NaCl)
Similarly, oxygen bears (-2) charge thus, formula of metal oxide will be M2O ( ex: Na2O) .
