A number exceeds another number by 3.If their sum is 27, find the two numbers.

Let the first number be x and the second number be y where y > x.

y= x + 3 ………..(1) (Given)

y + x = 27 ……….(2) (Given)

Substituting the value of y from (1) to (2), we get

x + 3 + x =27

2x = 24

x = 12

And y = 15

Therefore the first number is 12 and the second number is 15.
