Question

a person travels a straight road with velocity v1 for first half time and second half time wid velocity v2. then mean velocity is?

Open in App
Solution

Suppose, the man’s total displacement is S.

And suppose his total time of travel is T.

He travels for time T/2 with velocity v1. The displacement is = v1 × T/2

Next T/2 time he travels at v2. The displacement is = v2 × T/2

So, S = v1 × T/2 + v2 × T/2 = (T/2)(v1 + v2)

Average velocity = S/T = (T/2)(v1 + v2)/T = (v1 + v2)/2
