Question

a radio active dna allowes to replicate in radioactive medium and dna replicates in 20 min .find no. of non radioactive dna and strands after 100 min?explain also

Solution

If the DNA is radioactively labelled and the medium is also radioactive then all the strands of DNA would be radioactive but if we assume that the medium is not radioactive then after 5 replications (100/20 =5) there would be 32 DNA if we take the initial number of DNA to be 1. 32 DNA would have 64 strands and we know that DNA follows semiconservative pattern of replication so only the two strands of the initial DNA that were radioactive while the other 62 strands would be devoid of radioactivity as the medium in which replication is taking place is non radioactive.
