Spirogyra represents the filamentous form of algae, belongs to plant kingdom. It is commonly known as thallophyte because it has all those features which place it in division thallophyta. It is chlorophyll-bearing, simple, thalloid and largely aquatic (freshwater and marine) organism. It can reproduce both sexually and asexually but mainly through asexual means by fragmentation.
