$Since square of side 6 unit is further divided into squares of side 1 unit then, total number of smaller square = \frac{area of square having side 6 cm}{square of side having side 1 cm} = \frac{6 \times 6}{1 \times 1} = 36 Note - Basically whenever we are saying Area of the square is, lets say 24 square meter then it means there are 24 square of having side 1 unit .$
