Question

a stone is dropped freely in the river frrom a bridge. It takes 5 sec to touch the water surface in the water. Calculate (a) The height of bridge from water level. (b) The distance covered by stone in the last second (g= 9.8 m/s2

Solution

Distance travelled in 5 seconds will be equal to the hight of the bridge from the water.S = ut + 12at2As stone is dropped , initial velocity is zero, in a free fallacceleration is equal to g.h = 0×t + 12×9.8×5×5h = 122..5 mDistance travelled in last second = distance travelled is 5 s - distance travelled in 4 s.= 122.5 - 12×9.8×4×4= 122.5 - 78.4= 44.1 m
