A student boils the water in an electic kettle for 20 minutes after being switched on. Using the same mains supply; he wants to reduce the boiling time of water. To do so, should he increase the length of the heating element? Justify your answer.

Length is directly proportional to resistance. therefore, if the length is reduced, the resistance will reduce and as resistance is inversely proportional to current, more electrical energy will flow per second. Thus, boiling time of water will be reduced.
