Mitosis and meiosis are the two types of cell division. Mitosis also called equational division is the type of cell division in which the number of chromosomes in the parent cell and the daughter cells remain same. It occurs in all cells other than reproductive cells. Meiosis is the specialized kind of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half (thus called reductional division) resulting in production of haploid daughter cells (gametes). It mainly takes place in the reproductive cells or sex cells.
