a venus flytrap is a green plant. It contains chlorophyll and can therefor make its own food. Then why does it need to take in insects for its nutrition?

Venus flytrap is found in areas where the soil is deficient in nitrogen. So to make up it's nitrogen deficiency they trap insects because insects act as nitrogen source for the plants. To produce food they rely on the process of photosynthesis like other plants.
