Question

(A)When does a body sinks in a fluid ?(B)Why does a balloon filled with hydrogen gas rise up against gravity ?

Solution

(1) Whether a body will float or sink depends on the density of the body. Density of a body is the mass divided by the volume of the body. If the density of an object is more than the density of the liquid, then it sinks in the liquid. This is because the buoyant force acting on the object is less than the force of gravity.

(2) Hydrogen filled balloon tends to go up ward towards as when the gas inside the balloon expands, its density reduces. The air in the balloon thus becomes lighter and less dense than the air outside the balloon. This makes a hot air balloon rise up.
