According to the modern periodic table elements falls in the same group have same no. of electron but in this table in the 18th group helium has 2 valence electrons while the other elements have 8 valence electrons. Why the difference is their?
Helium has fully filled outer shell. Since it does not have p orbital, it is inert and shares this with other noble gases. Noble gases also have filled orbitals. So, helium is placed with them in group 18.
