Question

According to universal law of gravitation -EVERY OBJECT ATTRACTS EVERY OTHER OBJECT .So why don't we humans also we also get by hitting each other?

Solution

It is true that every object attracts every other object because of mass. There exists a gravitational force of attraction between two humans also. But this force is too small to overcome the frictional force between the humans and the surface on which they are standing and hence fail to cause any motion.

Consider two boys of weight 50 kg each separated by 1 m standing on the same floor. Consider the coefficient of static friction between the surface of the shoe they are wearing and the floor to be 0.5.

The limiting friction for each boy will be, f = μmg = (0.5)(50)(9.8) = 245 N

The gravitational force of attraction between the two boys is, F = (6.67×10-11)(50)(50)/12

=> F = 1.67 × 10-7 N

Since, F << f, so, there is no chance of any motion to be caused by the gravitational force between the two boys.
