A material is used in the thermometer to determine the temperature only in its liquid form. The freezing point of ethanol is -70 °C and boiling point is 78°C and an alcohol temperature works in between these two temperatures. So, alcohol thermometer is useful for measuring day and night temperature and body temperature.
