Question

Alka jogs from one end A to other end B of a straight 250m road in one minute and 10 seconds. She then turns around and jogs 50m back to the point C in 30 seconds. Calculate the average speed and average velocity in jogging from :

a) A to B

b) A to C

Open in App
Solution

Total distance between A and B=250m

Going from A to B,

Total distance travelled=250 m,total time taken=1 min 10sec=70sec

Average speed=Total distance/total time=250/70=3.6m/s

Average velocity=Total displacement/Total time=250/70=3.6 m/s

Going from A to C,

Total distance=250+50=300m

Total time=70+30=100sec

Average speed=300/100=3 m/s

Now displacement=250-50=200m

Total time=70+30=100sec

Average velocity=200/100=2m/s
