among lion ,tiger and domestic cat ,all the three have the same number of 38 chromosomes ,yet they have different appearances.How do you account for such differences?

Though some organisms have same number of chromosomes, the phenotype (outward characteristics) of an organism is decided by both genotype and the environment in which the organism lives.

The gene which decides the appearance of an organism even in the presence of an alternative gene is known as a dominant gene. It dominated the recessive gene for the same characteristic on the other chromosome of the pair.
