Question

An activity to arrange Ca, Mg and Fe in the decreasing order of reactivity with water

Open in App
Solution

Ca and Mg both belong to the same group II . In contrast to Mg which is unreactive towards cold water, Ca reacts slowly with water to form calcium hydroxide.

Whereas Fe does not react at all with pure water. It reacts only in the presence of moist air (air + water) .

Decreasing order of reactivity is

Ca>Mg> Fe
