Consider an electric dipole consisting of charges −q and +q and of length 2a placed in a uniform electric field.
So force on charge +q
F = +qE
Force on the other charge -q,
F' = - qE
Since these forces are equal and opposite.
So net force F(n) = qE - qE = 0
This shows that no force act on the dipole.
