Solution

Hello,

Dipole in a Uniform External Field

Consider an electric dipole consisting of charges −q and +q and of length 2a placed in a uniform electric field.

So force on charge +q

F = +qE

Force on the other charge -q,

F' = - qE

Since these forces are equal and opposite.

So net force F(n) = qE - qE = 0

This shows that no force act on the dipole.
