An element "X' combines with oxygen to form an oxide XO . The oxide is electrically conducting. Givethe following information :

(i) How many electrons are presnt in the valance shell of element "X"

(ii) Wrte the formula of the compount when "X" combines wiith chlorine.

1) As the metal combines with O which has valence -2, the valency of metal must be +2

2) From above the valency is known to be +2 and Cl has valency -1 therefore, XCl2
