an ionic compound does not conduct electricity in solid state,but when it is issolved in water , it conducts electricity due to the dissociation into ions. why do ions conduct electricity

Ions are positively and negatively charged.Now, the motion of electrons constitutes current. Similarly, the motion of ions in a water constitutes current.The positive ions move towards the negative plate and negative ions move towards the positive plate thus completing the circuit and conducting electricity.
