Solution

Compound A is ethyl alcohol C2H5OH. Ethyl alcohol is a constituent of antifreeze. Ethyl alcohol on oxidation gives acetic acid or ethanoic acid C2H4O2 (B) and not on heating with oxygen as ethanol on heating with oxygen gives CO2 and H2O.

C2H5OH + 2[O] --------------> CH3COOH + H2O

Ethanol Ethanoic acid
