Question

P and Q are aqueous solutions of sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide, respectively. Which of these will turn :

(a) blue litmus red?

(b) red litmus blue?

Open in App
Solution

Since P is the aqueous solution of sodium chloride, it is neutral in nature, and therefore the litmus paper will not turn into any colour.

On the other hand, Q is the solution of sodium hydroxide, so it turns red litmus paper blue because it is an alkaline substance.
