Solution

In the given question;
Arana cut the cake into two equal halves. Now, one of these pieces is further cut into smaller pieces of equal sizes.

We know that;
Total number of pieces = 7

This means that one half of the cake is cut into 6 equal halves and the other half is kept as it.

Weight of one small piece = 20 gm
Weight of 6 small pieces =20×6gm
= 120 gm

Now, initially the cake was cut into 2 equal halves. So
Weight of 7th piece of the cake (other half of the cake) = Weight of 6 small pieces
Weight of 7th piece of the cake = 120 gm

Total weight of the cake = Weight of 6 small pieces + Weight of 7th piece
= ( 120 + 120 ) gm
= 240 gm

Therefore, original cake weighed 240 gm.
