are we mixture, compound or element?
Instead of saying that human beings are elements, mixtures or compounds, it would be more appropriate to say that human beings are composed of elements, mixtures and compounds. The proteins that are considered to be the building block of the body are complex compounds made up of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and other elements. Fatty acids, vitamins, nucleic acids which are important biomolecules too are complex compounds in which carbon is the principal element present. Elements like calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, sodium etc are present both in the form of compounds and in elemental form. Also, the cytoplasm in the cell is a gel like substance consisting of different salts, proteins, fats, minerals etc suspended in aqueous medium. Thus, it can be called a mixture.
