The major components of the air are:

  • Nitrogen - 78%
  • Oxygen - 20%
  • Argon - 0.93%
  • Carbon dioxide - 0.031%

Other gases such as Neon, Helium, Hydrogen etc, are present in trace amounts.

The increasing order of the boiming points of the above gases is :

Nitrogen (lowest)

Argon

Oxygen

Carbon dioxide.

Therefore, Carbon dioxide forms the liquid first as the air is cooled and nitrogen forms the liquid in the last.
