Solution

Nitrogen is a constituent of a number of organic compounds like amino acids, proteins, nucleic acid, hormones, chlorophyll and many vitamins. Plants obtain nitrogen from soil as nitrate, ammonium and nitrite ions. Nitrate and nitrite are reduced to ammonium state which is then incorporated into amino acids, proteins and other organic substances.
