Solution

Dear Student!
The balanced reaction is given as;
MnO4- + I- ---> Mn2+ + I2 +H2O
Oxidation half is :
I- +3H2O --> IO3- + 6e- +6H+
Reduction half is:(in basic mdium)
MnO4- +3e- + 4H+ --->MnO2 +2H2O
The equations are balanced by multiplying with suitable co efficient as:
[ I- +3 H2O --> IO3- + 6e- +6H+ ]
[MnO4- +3e- + 4H+ --->MnO2 +2H2O] x 2
______________________________________________________
I- + 2MnO4- + 8H+ + 3H2O + 6e- -----> IO3- +2MnO2 +4H2O+ 6e-
Hence, the balanced ionic reaction is :
I- + 2MnO4- + 2H+ ---> IO3- + 2MnO2 +H2O
