A CFL bulb is powered by electricity. It is basically converts electrical energy into light energy. In the process: electric energy is transmitted by the wires to the circuit of the bulb. The electrodes of the bulb ionize the gas inside the tube which in the process emits light. Some heat is also generated during the process. Thus, electrical energy is converted into light energy and a little amount of heat energy.
