benzene ring has alternate single and double bonds, yet all the C-C bond lengths are the same.

why?

Solution

In a benzene molecule six pi electrons are not confined on any specific carbon atom, but are delocalized over whole ring and provide stability to molecule. Due to this delocalization of pi bonds bond length of carbon atoms in benzene are intermediate to carbon-carbon single bond and carbon-carbon double bond.
