Question

briefly describe the verification of chromosomal theory of inheritance by T.H Morgan?

Open in App
Solution

The verification of chromosomal theory of inheritance was provided by T.H Morgan when he explained the basis of white eye mutation in drosophila. When a white eyed mutant male is crossed with a red eyed wild type female the progeny are all red eyed. This is because all female progenies will acquire a wild type X chromosome and hence will be red eyed. All the males in first generation will carry only wild type gene of eye colour of mother and hence will be red eyed. In the second generation white eyed males again appear indicating that the gene for eye colour is localized on sex chromosome.
