Question

briefly explain the formation of dna.

Open in App
Solution

Fundamental unit of DNA is nucleotides.

Nucleotides are made up of three components:

1. Nitrogenous base (Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine).

2. Pentose sugar.

3. Phosphate group.

Nitrogenous base and pentose sugar join together via N-glycosidic bond to form nucleoside.

Than nucleoside and phosphate group join together via phosphoester bond to form a nucleotide.

After nucleotides are formed, many nucleotides join together via phosphodiester bond to form a polynucleotide chain.

At last two polynucleotide chains twist around each other and nitrogenous base of one polynucleotide chain form a hydrogen bond with other chain to form a DNA.
