Question

calculate permittivity of free space

Open in App
Solution

Suppose two point charges q1 and q2 are separated in vacuum by a distance r.
Then according to Coulomb's law :-
F=k q1q2rr where k is electrostatic force constant = 9 x 109 Nm2C-2
Here, k = 14πε0 where ε0 is called absolute electrical permittivity of the free space.
Therefore, ε0 = 14πk= 14 X 3.14 X 9 X 109= 8.85 X 10-12N-1C2m-2
