Question

Calculate the force of attractiondue to earth on a child weighing 10 Kg standing on the ground. ( Radius of the earth = 6.4 x 106 m ; mass of the earth = 6 x 1024 Kg ; and G = 6.7 x 10-11 Nm2/Kg2) ( 98 newtons)

Open in App
Solution

we know that

F = GMm / r2

here,

G = 6.67 x 10-11 Nm2/kg2

M = 6 x 1024 kg

m = 10 kg

r = 6.4 x 106 m

so,

F = ( 6.67 x 10-11 x 6 x 1024 x 10 ) / ( 6.4 x 106 )2

or

= 40.02 x 1014 / 40.96 x 1012

thus, the gravitational force will be

F = 97.8 N ~ 98 N
