Question

calculate the no of ions in 3.06g of molten gram of aluminium oxide

Open in App
Solution

Molecular weight of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) is = (27X2 + 16X3) =102

Number of molecule present in 102g aluminium oxide is 6.022X1023
Number of molecule present in 1g aluminium oxide is 6.022X1023/102
Number of molecule present in 3.06g aluminium oxide is (6.022X1023/102)X3.06
=1.8X1022

Al2O3 = 2Al3+ + 3O2-
On dissociation of 1 Al2O3 total (2 Al3+ and 3 O2-) = 5 ions produced
1.8X1022 molecule Al2O3 will produce 1.8X1022X5 ions
=9.0X1022 ions
