Question

Calculate the work done when a load of 100 kg is lifted up vertically by 5m. Given g = 9.8 m/s2.

Open in App
Solution

Here,

Mass (m) = 100 kg

Displacement (s) = 5 m

g = 9.8 m/s2

Force acting downwards on mass 5 kg is = Mg

F = Mg

=> F=100×9.8 = 980 N

We know

Work done = F×s

Thus work done to lift the mass up by 5 m will be

= 980×5

= 4900 Joules
