Canbenzaldehyde and propanal.be named as phenal and propanone respectively?

Open in App
Solution

No, Benzaldehyde can not be named as phenal but it can be named as Phenylmethanal as (phenyl) word can not be used in with functional group alphabate i.e -al according to IUPAC naming.
No, propanal can not be named as propanone as in aldehyde (c=o Group) is present at terminal whereas in ketone its present in between the chain. So, its impossible to name them similarly.
