Question

cell wallcan withstand dilute hypotonic media and prevents bursting of cells. Therefore, plant cells withstand changes in environmental concentration better than animal cells.how?

Solution

Cell wall is a tough cellulosic wall encasing the plasma membrane in plant cells. In a hypotonic media when water is taken up and absorbed by the cell, the plasma membrane swells up. It may burst due to excessive pressure in animal cells but in plant cells it is restricted by the cell wall curbing expansion. Hence the cells do not burst. This makes plant cells more adapted to variable environmental conditions.
