Classify the following compunds as alkanes, alkenes and alkynes- C2H6, C2H4, C3H4, C4H8, C5H12, C5H8, C3H8.
A compound with a general formula of CnH2n+2 is said to be an alkane which does not contain any double bond. Here n is the number of carbon.
if a compound satisfies the formula CnH2n , then it falls in the category of alkene and hence have a double bond.
Whereas a compound falls in the category of CnH2n-2 is known as alkyne and have a triple bond.
Hence alkane are :- C2H6, C5H12 and C3H8
alkene are :- C2H4 and C4H8
alkyne ;- C3H4 and C5H8
