Question

collision is elastic means momentum conserved then why we say change in momentum of particle -2mvx?

Solution

When the collision is elastic the net momentum of the system remains constant. The momentum of the individual entity of the system may vary with time but the variation is such that the net momentum is same or is conserved provided there is no external force applied.
