Question

Compute the number of sodium ions present in 5.58g of sodium chloride.

Open in App
Solution

Sodium chloride= NaCl

So its mass= atomic mass of sodium + atomic mass of Chlorine= 23+55.5= 58.5

58.5 g of NaCl contains 6.023 * 1023 sodium ions.

So, in 1 g of NaCl, number of sodium ions= 6.023* 1023 / 58.5

So in 5.85 g of NaCl, number of sodium ions= (6.023* 1023 / 58.5) *5.85 = 6.022 * 10 22 sodium ions.
