Question

Cord of an electric heater does not get heated but the heating element does why?

Open in App
Solution

This is due to heating effect of current which is magnified in a material with larger resistance. We know that a material with resistance heats up as current flows through it and the amount of heat generated depends upon the resistance the material has

Now, the cord, which is made up of a conductor has a low resistance compared to the heating element which is typically a good resistor. This is why the element heats up faster.
