Question

Covalent solids have high melting point or low melting point?

Open in App
Solution

Covalent solids are also known as network solids or giant molecule.

The constituent particles are atoms which are bonded together by covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are strong and directional in nature, therefore atoms are held very strongly at their positions making the solids very hard, Due to this, they have very high melting points.
