define biomagnification &eutrophication?
Eutrophication means nutrient enrichment and it is due presence of excess nutrients in water bodies. Release of nutrient rich sewage and industrial effluents lead to introduction of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus in the water body. This leads to the increase in temperature and Biological Oxygen Demand of the water body, causing increased biological activity, thereby leading to algal blooms.
Biomagnification is the increase in the concentration of a substance with the increase in the trophic level.
