Excretion is the process of elimination of waste products of metabolism and other toxic and non useful materials by an organism. Carbon dioxide, water and oxygen are plant’s chief excretory products and others include latex, quinine, resin, tannin and opium. Animals excrete carbon dioxide, nitrogenous wastes like ammonia, urea and uric acid, water and certain ions like Na+, K+, Cl–, phosphate, sulphate, etc. Ammonia is released by aquatic amphibians, insects and bony fishes, urea by mammals and terrestrial amphibians and uric acid is excreted by reptiles and birds.
