define heat of combustion of a fuel?
When a fuel is subjected to combustion, it combines with oxygen in order to form carbon dioxide and water. This is an exothermic reaction i.e. large amount of energy is released in the form of heat and light.
The Heat energy released during the combustion of 1 mole of fuel is known as Heat of combustion of fuel. When heat is measured at constant pressure, then it is known as enthalpy of combustion of fuel and when heat is measured at constant volume then it is known as heat energy of combustion of fuel.
