define melting point of a solid . discuss its significance.
Dear student!
Melting point is the temperature at which the solid starts to convert into liquid state or it may be also defined as a temperature where the solid and liquid states co exists.
At, this temperature the heat supplied is enough to break the intermolecular force of attraction or to make them loosely bonded so that the shape of the solid gets disturbed and the liquid state is obtained.
The significance of melting point is noticed in separating different substance and detecting impurities as adding the impurities lowers the melting point and also the m.pt has been found fixed for each type of substance.
