Genes are normally expressed when their functional proteins are required. Gene expression can be regulated at any step from transcription to translation. RNA polymerase binds to promoter and initiates transcription (Initiation). Induction means to bring something in a process. For induction of gene expression, RNA polymerase associates transiently with initiation-factor (σ) as in prokaryotic transcription. Transcription factors, activators, enhancers and repressors also play role in induction of gene expression.
