define trophic level. why green plants and herbivores are paced in the 1st and 2nd level respectively in the food chain?

A trophic level is the position occupied by organism in food chain.
Green plants produce their own food by photosynthesis, using the energy of the sun and carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air, and H₂O from soil so they are grouped into the first trophic level.
Herbivores feed on green plants i.e producers and are primary consumers, so are placed in second tropic level.
