A trophic level is the position occupied by organism in food chain.
Green plants produce their own food by photosynthesis, using the energy of the sun and carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air, and H2O from soil so they are grouped into the first trophic level.
Herbivores feed on green plants i.e producers and are primary consumers, so are placed in second tropic level.
